Sudan’s military council, which is currently governing the nation from Thursday when it had forced oust President Omar al-Bashir, will not transfer the president to other nation and he will only face justice in Sudan, Omar Zain Abidin, the council’s political committee head said on Friday.

According to Sputnik news reports, Abidin said, “We will not send Bashir abroad, but we will try him in Sudan.” He has also refuted imposed claims that the army coup had gained power in the country after Bashir’s resignation.

Abidin stated, “We have not carried out a military coup, we have come [to power] as a response to the people’s desire.”

Following months of anti-government protests, the country’s defence minister Awad Mohamed Ahmed Ibn Auf had announced on Thursday that the Sudanese military had detained the president and also ordered a curfew state in Sudan.

He also announced the formation of the army council, who will be charged with governing the nations for maximum next two years. However, Abidin on Friday, said that the military councils will govern the country only one month if the situation gets stabilized.

Thousands of Sudanese protested and remained camped put outside military headquarters in the country’s capital on Friday demanding a transition to the civilian rule, ignoring a state of emergency declared by the military amid Bashir forced resignation by the country’s army.

According to BBC news reports, the army leaders had carried out a coup in Thursday in Sudan, reassuring citizens their only concern aimed at public order.

A protester’s spokesperson said the country’s future would only be decided by the people demonstrating who had protested on Thursday to oust Bashir.

Following elections, the military has said they will look towards a transitional period, and as per this, it will be imposing a three-month curfew in the country, including suspension of the constitution.
