Khartoum, May 20: Sudanese protest and military leaders have resumed discussions on Sunday to finalize a new ruling government council in order to replace current-ruling the Transitional Military Council (TMC).

According to ANI news reports, while referring to the ongoing protest movement in the nation, the military council, in a statement, said, “The talks between the Transitional Military Council (TMC) and the Alliance for Freedom and Change have started.”

On Sunday, the protest group alliance said it was and will remain determined the nation’s new ruling council be “led by a civilian as it’s chairman and with limited military representations”, as per Al-Jazeera reports.

Over the issue of the composition of the transitional authorities, the two sides have been separated. Both sides have demanded to have the majority of seat over the 11-member ruling council and to operate as the main head during the planned transitional period.

On Wednesday, the military leaders announced a power-sharing agreement has been reached with the opposition alliance for a three-year transitional period just before a civilian ruling body is elected.

Initially, the military general had insisted over a two-year transitional period, but however, the civil council wanted a four-year transitional period.

Thousands of Sudanese have been protesting and holding sit-ins outside military headquarters in the capital Khartoum for several weeks since the military forcibly ouster ex-President Omar al-Bashir.

Earlier, Sudanese main protesting group called for a general strike and civil disobedience as meetings held with the nation’s transitional military council (TMC) failed to reach any breakthrough over the formation of a joint council.

As tensions escalated between the two sides, the SPA (Sudanese Professionals Association) group, in a statement, said the military had attempted to break-up a sit-in in Khartoum, where demonstrations took place by protesters demanding hand over of power to a civilian transitional body, according to Reuters news reports.
