Sudanese main protest group has on Sunday demanded to military council to immediately hand over the power to a civilian transitional body, stating it would continue to demonstrate on the streets which had prompted ex-President Omar al-Bashir to step down last week.

According to Reuters news reports, the Sudanese Professionals’ Association (SPA) has called for a transitional council to be established which the military forces would protect, adding that it would apply “all forms of peaceful pressure to achieve the objectives of the revolution”.

The military council, who replaced the president from Thursday since Bashir was ousted and declared a state of emergency, announced a new decisions’ raft on late Sunday, including the retirement of defence minister Awad Ibn Auf as well as his deputy, who had resigned as the head of the transitional body after replacing Bashir.

The army council has also appointed lieutenant general Abu Bakr Mustafa as the intelligence chief, replacing Salah Abdallah Mohamed Saleh, who stepped down on Friday.

On Sunday, the transitional council spokesperson told a media conference that the army was ready to collaborate with the oppositions to establish a fresh civilian transitional government.

The spokesperson, Shams El Din Kabbashi said, “The ball is now in the political forces’ court when it comes to the prime minister or a government,” adding, “If they are ready today to approve anything, we are ready to implement it.”

Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the head of the army council, has earlier said the body had invited the protest organizers and the main oppositions for a meeting.

However, the parties and the SPA, who aligned to form a group called the Forces for Freedom and Change, said they haven’t yet attended the meeting.

The SPA spokesperson told Reuters: “We were not invited to this meeting … we will submit our suggestions for the government to the military council.”

According to Reuters witness, the meeting has been held largely attended by unknown parliamentarians and politicians, known to be loyal to Bashir and party.
