Sudanese protesters have on Friday announced its plan to unveil a civilian council to take over power from the military transitional council as demonstrators gathered outside the country’s military headquarter on Friday to protest.

The army council which took control over the country after it forcibly ousted ex-President Omar al-Bashir from the office on April 11, so far have refused calls from protesters to quickly hand over the power to a civilian transitional council.

In a statement, the Sudanese Professionals Association, who is leading the protests, stated it would be naming the members of the civilian council soon on Sunday at a media conference outside the military complex, where international diplomats were invited to attend the event, according to Dawn news reports.

The umbrella group of unions for doctors, engineers, and teachers leader Ahmed al-Rabia said, “We are demanding that this civilian council, which will have representatives of the army, replace the military council.”

Friday’s demonstration marked the four months of the beginning of protests when the Bashir’s government has reportedly hiked bread price, which prompted mass protests in the nation.

Hundreds of thousands of Sudanese civilians gathered outside the defence ministry on Thursday, campaigning a sit-in protest, demanding the nation’s transitional military council to hand over power to the public in order to form a civilian transitional body.
