A Sri Lankan apex court on Monday, restrained Mahinda Rajapaksa from behaving and acting like a Prime Minister of the country. The court has issued a notice against Rajapaksa and its government to not act as the prime minister, deputy ministers and cabinet minister of the country.

A case has been filed by 122 member of parliaments against Rajapaksa and its government, as President has installed Rajapaksa as the prime minister of the country, even after two parliamentary polls where Rajapaksa has been fairly dropped against former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Though the two-time parliamentary votes were in favour of Wickremesinghe, President Maithripala Sirisena has sacked Wickremesinghe and instead, installed Rajapaksa as the newly elected prime minister.

The court order has been issued in a Quo Warranto, where case has been filed against Rajapaksa and its government by 122 members of parliament.

Sri Lanka is still witnessing a political crisis since October26, when Sirisena has sacked Wickremesinghe and appointed Rajapaksa as the new prime minister.

Sirisena has later, dissolved the parliament and announced a snap election ahead. The Supreme Court then dismissed Sirisena’s move of dissolving the parliament and halted the snap election polls.

Wickremesinghe has won two time voting against Rajapaksa, still Sirisena appointed Rajapaksa as the new prime minister. This is the reason why both of them claims to be the prime minister of the country. Wickremesinghe has also claimed that majority of votes is in favour of him and his removal as prime minister is invalid.
