Permanent envoy of the Syrian mission to the United Nations (UN) threatened that Damascus might respond to Israeli airstrikes on Damascus airport, Tel Aviv airport, in retaliation to the recent “symmetric” strike on Tel Aviv airport.

Permanent Representative of the Syrian Arab Republic to the UN Bashar Jaafari called for the UN security council to take “action to stop constant Israeli attacks on Syrian territories”. However, he said now Damascus might exercise its right for self-defence and respond to Israel over its airstrikes on Damascus airport with “symmetric” strike on Tel Aviv airport.

Also, Jafari added that Syria was mulling over the “symmetric” strikes on Tel Aviv airport as a part of its rights for self-defence, according to Sputnik news reports.

The Israeli airstrikes took place on Monday targeting Iranian targets in the Syrian region, reported CNN. Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) claimed it has struck Iranian warehouses at the Tel Aviv airport through its strikes.

Earlier, the Israeli defence forces have launched several series of airstrikes that have reportedly targeted Iranian-linked militant forces, intelligence sites, warehouses and training camp at Damascus international airport.

At the end of the last year, in a press briefing, the Israeli ambassador to the UN Danny Danon said Israel would continue to fight against Iranian troops in Syria even if the United States finally withdraw American troops from the region.

Israel, since the very beginning, considered Iran as its main opponent in the Middle East area and is concerned about the presence of Iranian military instructors along with the Tehran-backed Hezbollah Shia movement in the region.
