Safe Zone in Northern Syria

Hama [Syria], June 10: The Syrian armed forces are continuing their offensive to take back the captured regions controlled by the rebels, after a few days of restoring Kafr Houd region.

China’s Xinhua news agency has quoted a Syrian army officer as saying, “We are in the northern countryside of Hama in the village of Kafr Houf and we are heading to the towns of Tal Balah, Jalameh, and Jubain.”

He added, “Our forces are advancing toward Tal Balah and Jubain to restore all areas that have been taken by the rebels over the past three days and the field situation is perfect.”

The officer said the Syrian army was advancing to rescue the road between towns of Sqailbiyeh and Mhardeh, which has been closed following a recent attack reportedly by rebels, according to ANI news reports.

The road is disputed as it is used to supply equipment to the Syrian armed forces unit which has been stationed in the region.

Muhammad Ibrahim, the head of Kafr Houd, told Xinhua, “With the efforts of the Syrian Army, people have returned to the town of Kafr Houd and now they are in their homes despite the fact that many of the houses have been damaged as a result of the rebel’ mortar shelling.”

As per the reports of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the dispute over retaking the regions and towns has been long ranging since April, when a total of 126 personnel from the Syrian government-backed forces, along with other 102 rebels have lost their lives since the latest offensive took place about three days ago in the three towns.
