The Chinese mainland firmly opposed a decision made by Taiwan-based Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) that has banned its workers from using the mobile phones and computers that are being produced by mainland-based IT firm Huawei.

According to China Daily news reports, the spokesperson with the state council Taiwan affairs office Ma Xiaoguang, when asked to comment over ITRI’s move of banning Huawei’s product, said, “We are strongly against such an action that undermines regular economic and trade activities across the Taiwan Strait for the sake of politics.”

Ma said that it does not only harm the interests of China’s mainland enterprises but also the consumers in Taiwan, further adding that the actions were a “pandering to certain foreign forces” with institutes serving as a pawn, he said as quoted by Xinhua.

A day of ITRI announced its decision to ban Chinese Huawei’s products, the central news agency (CNA) also reported that the III (Institute of Information Industry) has also announced that it was imposing a ban over smartphones which were made by Huawei tech from accessing its network.

This week, the III told CNA that in order to further improve cybersecurity at the organizations, III is planning to completely halt the use of devices made by Huawei by May 2019.

Institute spokesperson Chen Wen-tang told RTI that equipment made by other Chinese companies have found to pose a security risk – that will also be banned.
