Chinese President Xi Jinping has on Wednesday said, the independence of Taiwan would only lead to a profound “disaster”, and said China is willing for a “peaceful reunification” with Taiwan but warned that China would not promised to renounce the use of force.

According to news reports, during an event to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the “Message to Compatriots in Taiwan” at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Xi said the reunification of Taiwan must come under China’s one-principle which will accept Taiwan as a part of China, an anathema to the supporters of Taiwan’s independence.

Xi said to the country that all people must “clearly recognize that Taiwan independence would only bring profound disaster to Taiwan”.

Warning that China would not allow any of separatist activists, Xi said, “We are willing to create broad space for peaceful reunification, but will leave no room for any form of separatist activities.”

According to reports, Xi said, “We make no promise to renounce the use of force and reserve the option of taking all necessary means.” He said adding that China would permit “no external interference”.

In 1949, after losing a civil war to the country’s communists, Chinese Nationalists forces stepped in Taiwan in 1949’s December.

However, both countries – China and Taiwan, has a close tie with personal, cultural and business links, democratic Taiwan proudly showed Taiwan’s no interest being ruled under autocratic Beijing.
