The Afghan Taliban has assured the United States special representative Zalmay Khalilzad that Afghanistan would never be used against any other country in future, during a telephonic conversation.

The News International daily reported that this assurance was given in Doha by the Taliban to Khalilzad when both sides resumed talks in order to resolve the Afghan issue. The two-day talks have begun on Monday, The Dawn reported.

Quoting Taliban sources, the newspaper said the issues that have remained incomplete in their last meeting last year in Abu Dhabi were discussed in this current Doha meeting.

According to sources, it said the Taliban has given the assurance to the US officials that Afghanistan would never be used against any other country in future.

One Taliban leader said, “We repeated our demand for withdrawal of all foreign forces from Afghanistan.”

According to a Taliban source, the US top delegation reiterated its demand to the Taliban to involve the Afghan government in peace talks, but however, again the Taliban rejected the demand.

In an official statement, Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said: “Following American acceptance of the agenda of ending the invasion of Afghanistan and preventing Afghanistan from being used against other countries in the future, talks with American representatives took place in Doha.”

The newspaper said, earlier the Pakistani authorities have made several efforts to convince the Afghan Taliban officials to hold a meeting with the US delegation in Islamabad. Pakistan wanted the Afghan Taliban to allow the Afghanistan government to join the peace negotiations.

However, both the Taliban officials and the militant group has rejected the request to let the Afghan government join the peace talks.
