Kabul, Oct 2: An Afghan Taliban designation will visit Pakistan on Wednesday, the extremist group stated – the most recent pause on a voyage through regional powers after following Washington’s withdrawal from the Afghan Peace Process.
A team of Taliban delegation, driven by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, one of the outfit’s founders, will talk about “important issues” with Pakistani authorities in the capital, Islamabad, Taliban representative Suhail Shaheen said on Twitter.
The Taliban designation would educate Pakistani leadership regarding the elements that crashed the discussions with the US aimed at striking an arrangement permitting the US and its allied forces to withdraw in exchange for a ceasefire guarantee from Taliban, said a Taliban official, who declined to be recognized.
A representative for Afghan President Ashraf Ghani couldn’t be immediately available for comment. Moreover, the Taliban group has also ventured to Iran, China, and Russia.
The development comes in the midst of President Donald Trump’s cancellation of US-Taliban peace talks earlier this month, post Taliban announcement it was behind the terror attacks in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul.
On Sep 7, Trump, in a series of tweets, confirmed he was calling off the secret negotiations with the group’s representatives and Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani at Maryland’s Camp David in the United States.
Trump, via tweets, has said he “called off” scheduled peace talks and “cancelled” a scheduled secret meeting with the group’s “major leaders”. He took this decision post Taliban declaration it was behind a terror attack in Afghan capital Kabul that claimed the life of an American troop and other 11 people.
However, it was uncertain whether the Taliban designation would meet Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad.
