Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena has been likened to Hitler on Tuesday, by the former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe as he demanded to be reinstated, after Sri Lanka suffering from paralyzed political crisis.

Wickremesinghe made a strong statement against Sirisena over Sirisena’s alleged role of appointing Mahinda Rajapaksa as the newly elected prime minister of the country and dismissing Wickremesinghe from his position.

Wickremesinghe said, “The president has to appoint me prime minister as I command a majority in parliament.” Wickremesinghe made this comment because Sri Lanka had two voting session, where Wickremesinghe has won with the majority of votes both the times. Instead of re-appointing Wickremesinghe his position, Sirisena sacked him and replaced him with Rajapaksa and appointed Rajapaksa as the new prime minister of the country.

Wickremesinghe claimed, “I am telling the president not to act like ‘Hitler’ who bypassed the constitution … We are not going to allow him to do that.”

However, on Monday, Sri Lankan apex court has issued an order against Rajapaksa and his government telling them to not act as the prime minister of the country and cabinet minister. In fact, court gave Rajapaksa a time period till December 12 to prove himself as legitimate.

Rajapaksa told his supporters to keep calm and support him for the next general election ahead of two years. Sirisena told the minority of Tamil legislators on Monday, that he would try to resolve the political gap “within 24 hours”.
