Heavy thunderstorms and winds have struck parts of Pakistan, prompting flash floods in the regions, leading to deaths of around 14 people, provincial officials reported on Tuesday.

Provincial official Muhammad Younus has told Al Jazeera news agency that southwestern Balochistan province of Pakistan was lashed by thunderstorms, in which eleven out of 14 people were killed. Other three were killed in Pakistan’s largest city, Karachi, also hit with thunderstorms.

A disaster management official, Younis, based in Balochistan said, “The provincial disaster management authority is engaged in relief and rescue work,” adding, “We have teams en route to Kohlu and other areas, There are still some places where people are stranded.”

Pakistan’s meteorological department, on Tuesday, said the nation would continue to face and feel the after-effects of the westerly wave system that would prompt another thunderstorms and further heavy winds.

In a statement, the department said the country’s weather system is expected to be continued as the same, at least till Wednesday.

On Tuesday, parts of Balochistan province has received rain up to 40mm, along with heavy rainfall in the southern Punjab province.

A spokesperson for National Disaster Management Authority, Mukhtar Ahmed, has said military helicopters were aiding in the evacuation process of some of those who stranded in Balochistan.

A senior hospital official, Seemin Jamali, said, “The whole city was in turmoil with the gusty winds, and the city didn’t look like it could take it.”
