The United States President Donald Trump’s government is considering imposing additional sanctions on Iran, that would target non-hit economic areas, a senior Trump administration official reported on Monday.

According to Reuters news reports, the official said Trump administration has aimed imposing new US sanctions on Iran around the period of the first anniversary of Washington’s withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran and some other world powers, which Trump had announced last May.

The official said, “We just want a continued chilling effect,” adding, “We want businesses to continue to think doing business with Iran is a terrible idea at this point.”

Trump has announced last May that US will withdraw itself from Intermediate-range Nuclear Force (INF) Treaty designed to prevent Tehran’s developing of nuclear weapons and missile, and ordered sanctions could be reimposed on the nation.

The international agreement, agreed by China, Iran, Russia, Frane, Britain, Germany and the United States, sought to prevent Tehran from developing nuclear missile systems and weapons in response for the US sanctions removal that had crippled Iran’s economy.

The official said the Trump administration was hoping to impose fresh sanctions on Iran in coming weeks.

The official said, “The more we can do around the anniversary, the better,” adding it takes time to put together such sanctions.
