United States President Donald Trump has on Monday announced he will be donating some USD 100,000 out of his annual presidential salary to the US department of homeland security.

According to ANI news reports, the US president has posted a picture on his Twitter account handle showing a cheque written to the homeland security department amounting to USD 100,000, estimated to one-quarter of Trump’s annual presidential salary of USD 400,000.

In a tweet, Trump wrote: “While the press doesn’t like writing about it, nor do I need them to, I donate my yearly Presidential salary of $400,000.00 to different agencies throughout the year, this to Homeland Security. If I didn’t do it there would be hell to pay from the FAKE NEWS MEDIA!”

The homeland security department is slated to work to improve the national security of the country. Homeland department’s work includes cybersecurity, anti-terrorism work, customs, immigration enforcement, border, emergency response to man-made and natural disasters.

Trump has donated a part of his annual salary to several government federal departments.

In October last year, he donated a similar amount to the Small Business Administration, a government agency providing support to entrepreneurs and small businesses in the US
