United States President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he hopes to meet Pakistani leadership soon as he acknowledges that the US-Pakistan relationship right now stands at “very good” position.

According to Dawn news reports, the US president has made this surprise announcement during his White House media talk held on Wednesday, while responding to a journalist’s question over the current situation between Pakistan and India.

Trump said, “Pakistan — we’ll be meeting with Pakistan [leadership]. I think our relationship right now is very good with Pakistan.”

At a media briefing in Washington DC, hours after Trump has made these remarks, a senior administration official warned America remained concerned about Pakistan-India tensions as Ameican troops are on alerts since three weeks of Pulwama terror attack – the most dangerous confrontation in decades.

The official has also warned another terrorist attack in India could “be extremely problematic for Pakistan and it would cause a re-escalation in tensions”.

The media briefing was followed by media reports about India and Pakistan’s deployment of additional troops and forces on the LOC (Line of Control).

India “has continued to maintain a high level of “operational alert” since last month’s clashes and the Indian Army also has moved up emergency purchases of stock-up ammunition, the reports added.

At the briefing, the senior official also acknowledged China’s role in de-escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, but regretted China’s decision blocking United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to recognize Jaish-e-Mohammed terror outfit chief Masood Azhar as a “global terrorist”.
