‘You will lose everything’: Trump threatens Venezuelan military supporting Maduro

US President Donald Trump

The United States President Donald Trump, at a campaign-style speech on Monday in Miami, said Venezuela’s military should not intervene into humanitarian aid which is coming into the nation, as Washington along with other countries expresses their full support to the self-proclaimed interim president Juan Guaido over the current Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro.

According to National Public Radio news reports, the US president has cautioned that time is running out for Maduro and regime and that those who have not yet recognized Guaido as the nation’s legitimate president are confronted with a dangerous choice as the world watches.

Trump has specially addressed Venezuelan military, saying backing Guaido would lead them to “a safe and prosperous future for all of the people of Venezuela”. But if continued supporting Maduro, whom Trump has called a “Cuban puppet”, would lead them to personal suffering.

Trump said: “If you choose this path you will find no safe harbor, no easy exit and no way out. You will lose everything. They are risking their lives and risking their future for a man controlled by the Cuban military.”

Trump has accused Maduro of elites running the country “into death and poverty”. Trump railed against what he has described as the “tyrannical socialist” presidency that brought Venezuela to the brink of ruin.

Trump has urged to Venezuelan military leaders to stop backing Maduro and reiterated Guaido’s promises of absolution under which army leaders would allow to live a life “in peace with your families and your countryman”.

Trump pleaded, “End this nightmare of poverty, hunger and death for your people,” further noting that Washington delivers humanitarian aids for Venezuela to Colombia over the weekend.
