Jared Kushner, the United States President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and Middle East adviser, advised Saudi Arabia crown prince Mohammed bin Salman “about how to weather the storm” over the incident of journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s murder in Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2.
According to news reports, Kushner tried to advise Mohammed over their private and informal conversations about how to deal with the major problem of the brutal murder of Khashoggi. Since the starting of the months, Kushner was in contact with Mohammed, which has caused a matter of worries for the senior US officials.
Three former senior US officials said the exchange between Kushner and Mohammed could have make Mohammed accessible to Saudi manipulation. Kushner and Mohammed continued chatting and attending phones of each other before and after the murder of Khashoggi on October 2.
American intelligence agencies reported that due to orders given by Mohammed, Kushner became Mohammed’s precious defender inside the White House. According to news report, a Saudi delegation said, “The inner circle is predominantly deal makers who lack familiarity with political customs and deep institutions, and they support Jared Kushner.”
However, the White House has declined to present any comment over Kushner and Mohammed one-on-one conversations.
Member of council on foreign relations and a former Middle East envoy said, “The relationship between Jared Kushner and Mohammed bin Salman constitutes the foundation of the Trump policy not just toward Saudi Arabia but toward the region.”
According to news reports, a transcript of an audio tape of Khashoggi has been found on Sunday, where his last words were “I can’t breathe”. It has been told to the US network that the transcript has made it clear that the killing was planned and even suggested that many phone calls, which were made, made a briefing on the killing progress.
According to reports, the calls made were to top officials of Riyadh, Turkish officials believes. The transcript also uncovered the struggle Mohammed was facing by his murderers and referred that the sound appearing was of Khashoggi’s “being dismembered by a saw”.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has reiterated the Saudi Arabia to bring out the suspect of Khashoggi’s murderer. The incident has impacted damages to the International reputation of Riyadh’s, even the US, Canada and France had imposed sanctions over 20 Saudi nationals.
