Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has on Friday said that Ankara will continue its purchasing of S-400 defence missile system from Russia, under its agreement with Moscow, and the United States has not presented the similar terms when it has offered to sell its Patriot missile system to Turkey.

According to Reuters news reports, when asked about the planned discussions last week in Moscow, Erdogan told reporters in Istanbul, “The S-400 holds an important place in our talks. The United States’ arguments are very wrong. We finished the S-400 process and our payments continue.”

Earlier this week, the US has suspended delivery of stealth F-35 fighter jet related equipment to Turkey because of their defence missile disagreements.

Ankara has previously expressed interest in the US patriot, but however, not at an expense of abandoning the Russian S-400 missile system.

A US official has suggested the purchase of Russian defence missile system to Turkey could present an opportunity to American forces, while speaking on a condition of anonymity.

The official stated, “It’s shocking that Russia, however, isn’t more worried about sending their equipment to a NATO nation, co-located with U.S. forces, where it can be studied and where we are likely to gain valuable intelligence.” He further added, “It may certainly be a unique opportunity.”
