Moscow, May 14: The presidents of Turkey and Russia held discussions aimed at ceasefire violations in Syria’s Idlib region by militants, as per a released official statement.

According to ANI news reports, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin held a telephonic conversation during which both leaders placed urgency over further coordination in the Syrian region.

The official statement noted: “(The leaders) continued the thorough exchange of opinions about key issues of the crisis situation in Syria with a focus on the situation in the Idlib de-escalation zone in light of the increased number of ceasefire violation by radical armed groups.”

The development came days after Russian defence ministry’s centre head for Syrian reconciliation, major-general Viktor Kupchishin, announced four settlements into the de-escalation region were militants and illegal armed forces launched bombards.

Earlier on April 15, the United States (US) envoy has held “substantial” discussions with Syrian foreign minister Walid Muallem on Sunday, in Damascus, to pave out political settlements to the country’s eight-year-long war.

Syrian state-run SANA news agency stated Muallem and Pedersen discussed the ongoing world powers’ efforts to advance the Syrian political process, including steps to establish a committee, to be tasked with drawing-up a post-war constitution.
