Brexit Deal UK Leave EU Oct 31

UK’s House of Lords has on Wednesday passed an amendment calling for Britain’s government to negotiate the customs union with the EU (European Union), providing British Prime Minister Theresa May’s a possible fresh headache into her proposed Brexit deal.

According to Reuters news reports, a cross-party amendment to the trade bill was backed by the upper parliament chamber, calling for the Britain government to take all possible measures to enable the UK to participate in a new customs union of the European Union after it leaves the bloc.

However, British prime minister had ruled out any such union that would be abhorrent to her Conservative Party’s lawmakers, though the idea was also backed by some of pro-EU conservatives and lawmakers from the opposition Labour Party.

The trade bill, whose focus is on transposing outside nations’ trade deals with the bloc into a bilateral deal with the United Kingdom, is due to get passed before Britain leaves the EU on March 29.

House of Lords’ amendment can be overturned by House of Commons but that means the lawmakers could have a vote session over the issue and could boost hopes of those who dearly wants Brexit, seeing Britain closely aligned to the EU.
