The United Kingdom government has on Saturday pledged additional assistance worth £100m for the Syrian crisis, as well as £300 million has been already allocated for 2019.

According to BBC news reports, the assistance of about £400m will help the ongoing aid “to those most in need” both in war-torn Syria as well as neighbouring nations where many illegally migrated or fled since war broke out in the region.

Around 360,000 people have died since the initiation of the civil war in 2011 in Syria. Funds will give people access to food, medicines, clothes, shelter and clean water.

Since 2012, the UK government has offered more than £2.8 billion to the Syrian crisis, including an additional 10 million vaccines as well as 140 million medical consultations.

The Syrian war has left more than 1.5 million people with permanent disabilities. Some 6.2 million Syrians were internally displaced, whereas around 5.6 million have fled the country to abroad such as Turkey, Jordan and Lebanon.

The latest UK development will be done at a conference “Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region”, which will be hosted by the European Union and the United Nations next week in Brussels.

The Department for International Development (DID), who pledged the funds to Syrians, will be used to counselling for traumatized people, as well as helping refugees to return their homeland.
