British lawmakers to vote on Thursday to avert no-deal Brexit

London, July 18: The United Kingdom (UK) legislatures are scheduled on Thursday to cast a ballot on the latest bid aimed at preventing prime minister contenders from opting a no-deal Brexit to withdraw Britain from the European Union (EU) on October 31 deadline.

Member of parliament Boris Johnson, the frontrunner to succeed British Prime Minister Theresa May in a couple of days, has stated the UK must leave the bloc as scheduled without any delay, with or without any agreement, and has rebuffed to rule out suspending the parliament in order to prevent legislatures from trying to end his Brexit plan.

According to Reuters news reports, Dominic Grieve, the lawmaker behind the proposed measure, could attempt to bring forward a more far-reaching section to seek to ensure the parliament would not get suspended on crucial dates in October.

The BBC has reported some senior UK ministers were considering to make their final resignation in support of this.

“The idea that parliament should be suspended in October … at a crucial point in this country’s history, that parliament should not be able to sit, should not be able to express its opinion and its will, I think would be outrageous,” Justice Secretary David Gauke told BBC Radio.

Asked if he would cast a ballot for the resolution – something that would prompt him to resign – he said, “I will have to see what the precise amendments are … I’m not in a position to necessarily say.”

Lawmakers will be asked on Thursday to offer their final approval to the resolution, which has been bolstered by the support of parliament chamber, the House of Lords.
