UNGA 2019 : Modi Armenian PM

New York, Sep 26: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday met with his Armenian counterpart Nikol Pashinyan in New York on the sidelines of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) summit.

During the bilateral meeting, both leaders recalled the historic relations going for centuries between Armenia and India, and reviewed bilateral relations and cooperation, and further expressed satisfaction over the steady growth and development of both the nations.

Modi thanked Pashinyan for Armenia’s strong support to India’s candidature for the permanent membership in the United Nations security council (UNSC), according to ANI news reports.

“Stressing on the need to considerably enhance the volume of bilateral trade and investment, Prime Minister expressed interest of Indian companies to explore opportunities in IT, agro-processing, pharmaceuticals, tourism and other sectors of Armenia,” read the release.

Moreover, Modi sought Armenia’s support for finalizing trade arrangement between New Delhi and the Eurasian Economic Union (EaEU) of which Armenia is a part.

“Prime Minister offered to strengthen India’s development partnership with Armenia as per interest and needs of Armenia. A large number of Armenian candidates benefit from training programmes conducted by India under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme,” said the release.

Referring to India’s world-wide famous culture, yoga, films and yoga, the Armenian prime minister called for deepening humanitarian and cultural ties between two nations. Moreover, Pashinyan has also invited the Indian prime minister to pay an official visit to Armenia.
