Representatives from the United States, Russia and China have reached a common agreement and called for a responsible and orderly withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan as part of the ongoing Afghan peace process.

According to ANI news reports, the US department of state has on Friday released a joint statement regarding the recent trilateral meeting held on April 25 in Russia over the Afghan peace process, which stated, “The three sides encourage the Afghan Taliban to participate in peace talks with a broad, representative Afghan delegation that includes the government as soon as possible.”

US special representative for Afghan reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad, Chinese special ambassador Deng Xijun and Russian presidential envoy Zamir Kabulov has attended the Moscow meeting.

Khalilzad took it to Twitter and said, “Our agreement with China and Russia yesterday along with the previous one with Europeans means we have emerging international consensus on US approach to end the war and assurances terrorism never again emanates from Afghanistan.” He called the international agreement a “milestone” in efforts to put an end to the 17-year-long Afghan war.

The joint statement also stated the Taliban made a “commitment” to fight against extremist ISIS terror outfit and serve its ties to Al-Qaeda and various other foreign terror organization.

The statement read the Taliban promised to “ensure the areas they control will not be used to threaten any other country”, calling to prevent any “terrorist recruiting, training and fund-raising”.

Though the Taliban and Washington have reached a peace agreement that has excluded Afghanistan government so far, no progress has been made over ways how both the entities will hold and share power, following US President Donald Trump’s decision to pull out American troops from Afghanistan.

China, Russia and the US further urged the Taliban to hold with a “broad, representative Afghan delegation that includes the government”.
