Washington DC, Sep 11: The chief of Pakistan-based terror outfit, Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), was designated as a global terrorist by the United States on Tuesday.

Mufti Noor Wali Mehsud, also known as Noor Wali, the leader of TTP, also famous as Pakistan Taliban, has been held accountable for numerous assaults, multiple suicide bombing terror attacks that have claimed the lives of hundreds of civilians. Earlier, the US department of state has labelled the TTP as Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT).

In an official statement, the department said, “Under Noor Wali’s leadership, TTP has claimed responsibility for numerous deadly terror attacks across Pakistan,” according to ANI.

As per the United Nations (UN), the organization is collaborated with Al-Qaeda and is also responsible for “financing, planning, facilitating, preparing, or perpetrating of acts or activities by, in conjunction with, under the name of, on behalf of, or in support of, supplying, selling or transferring arms and related material to, recruiting for or otherwise supporting acts or activities of” Al-Qaida terror group.

The development comes as a major blow to Pakistan, who has been under critical scrutiny following its support to terror outfits operating from its soil, mostly after it came under FATF radar for its “complicity” towards terror organizations like Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taliban (LeT) among others.

The US has also designated chiefs of ISIS, ISIS-Philippines, ISIS-West Africa, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Hamas, and Hizballah as terrorists.
