Washington DC, July 2: US President Donald Trump has on Monday warned Tehran, stating Washington is in a position to do “far worse” amid reports Iran has kicked off enriching uranium exceeding the limits outlined in the landmark 2015 international nuclear deal.

During an interview with Fox News, the US president said, “We are in a position to do far worse.”

According to ANI news reports, Washington has accused Iran of violating the regulations of International Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Iran on Tuesday dismissed a United States accusation that it has been long violating the “terms” of the landmark 2015 international nuclear treaty with global powers, after Iran said it had summoned fresh low-enriched uranium than it was allowed under the pact.

On his official Twitter handle, Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, in a message, said, “Seriously?” after receiving a statement from White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham, that stated, “There is little doubt that even before the deal’s existence, Iran was violating its terms.

This Iranian move marked the first major action beyond the obligations to the treaty since Washington pulled itself out of the International Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty last year.

However, the Iranian foreign minister said the step was not the violation of the nuclear accord, arguing Tehran was, in fact, exercising its rights to retaliate to America’s withdrawal of the pact.

The United Nations (UN) nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) – responsible for monitoring Iranian nuclear program under the treaty – has confirmed Tehran had exceeded the uranium-enriching limits.
