The United States will proceed its legal procedure to formally extradite Huawei CEO Meng Wanzhou from Canada, a Canadian envoy to the US told the Global and Mail, as China has now vowed to respond Washington’s actions.

In an interview with a Canadian newspaper, published on Monday, the Canadian diplomat, David MacNaughton told that the US will request extradition of Wanzhou, but did not provide information when the request will be made.

Huawei, the largest telecommunications equipment manufacturer in the world, told Reuters on Tuesday, it does not want to comment over US action to extradite Huawei CEO from Canada.

A US justice department spokesperson said, “We will comment through our filings.”

Chinese foreign ministry on Tuesday reiterated calls for the immediate release of Wanzhou and said her case was “not a regular judicial case”.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said Canada has made a “serious mistake” in this matter. She said, “Canada and the United States arbitrarily abused their bilateral extradition treaty to seriously infringe upon a Chinese citizen’s security and legal rights.”

Also, Chunying said China has “strongly urged” the US to correct its “mistakes”, end its arrest order against Wanzhou, and cancel its formal extradition of Wanzhou.

When asked China would retaliate against the US if Wanzhou is extradited, Chunying said, “China will, of course, respond to U.S. actions.”

Moreover, China has on Tuesday said, the US and Canada have been abusing their extradition agreement over the detention of Wanzhou after MacNaughton said the US would be proceeding with its formal extradition.
