The United States is all set to provide more than USD 20 million in initial humanitarian aid to Venezuela for the South American country to cope up with food, water, medicine shortages and “other dire impacts of their country’s political and economic crisis” caused by the country’s “illegitimate” president Nicolas Maduro regime.

Venezuelan National Assembly, the opposition party, whose president Juan Guaido was recognized as the interim president of Venezuela by the US, as stressed the need for immediate international humanitarian assistance.

America’s top diplomat said his announcement was in direct response to requests made by  Guaidó.

According to CBS news reports, a note issued by the US state department mentioned in it: “In response, the United States is ready to provide emergency air throughout Venezuela to help meet the increasingly urgent humanitarian need of Venezuelans affected by this crisis.”

The department, helmed by the secretary of state Mike Pompeo said: “The United States stands with the people of Venezuela and the communities throughout the region that have generously taken in their neighbours during this time of crisis. We commend the contribution of regional governments and all international donors, and encourage additional contributions from the international communities to meet growing needs in Venezuela and the region.”

The announcement by the US comes amid political division in the South American nation, with Maduro holding on his post of the presidency while the opposition Guaido has sworn-in as country’s interim president simultaneously.

Furthermost, Maduro has declared that his country is cutting off diplomatic and political ties with the US as the US has recognized Guaido as the interim president of the country saying that Maduro has no legal authority to cut off ties.
