The United States has held two voting on Thursday to put an end to the partial government shutdown as it has entered its 34th day, the world’s longest shutdown. The US Senate has on Thursday, voted down two bills, in which one legislation was backed by the US president, aimed at ending the record-long partial federal shutdown.

According to BBC news reports, the first legislation was backed by President Donald Trump and was a Republican bill which included Trump’s border wall funding and temporary protection to young undocumented individuals who were brought into the US as children. And the second legislation was a Democratic bill that would fund the government for three weeks but does not include Trump’s proposed border wall funding.

The Senate has rejected both the bills aiming to end the shutdown, leaving no sight to end the record-breaking. The Republican legislation was failed by 50-47 and the democratic legislation was followed by 53-44. Both the bills were the long shot, which needed 60 votes to pass.

The mere fact that the Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell expressed willingness to allow the Democratic bill to pass, suggesting he might be trying to persuade US lawmakers from both the parties to compromise. Previously McConnell has said he would not to pitch for bills that include Trump’s border wall funding.

Six Republican defectors, including former White House candidate and Utah Senator Mitt Romney, voted for the Democratic bill. It would have reopened the government until 8 February.

The Republican legislation would have provided Trump border funding and a temporary extension of protections for “Dreamers”, people brought to the US without any documents as children. Trump has offered this deal on Saturday.

Representative James Clyburn, the third-ranking House Democrat, said the Democrats would fulfill president’s demand for $5.7 billion border wall along with Mexico with technologies tools such as X-rays, drones, sensors and as well as border patrol agents.
