The United States will be coordinating Afghanistan adjustments with its NATO allies, US special representative for Afghan reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad has said on Tuesday.

NATO and allies were particularly upset due to no invitation into Afghan peace talks in Doha, Qatar, where Qatari diplomats were also included just because they were hosting talks.

According to Dawn news reports, the development was followed by the media reports alleging that NATO allies were upset with the US for not involving them into the Afghan peace process, which included a series of discussion between the Taliban and the US representatives last month in Doha, Qatar.

The reports claimed that at a recent discussion in Kabul, the other European allies and NATO were upset with the presence of the Qatari diplomats in the meetings.

NATO and allies have argued that if Qatar could participate in the discussion just because it was hosting the talks then why those who have contributed their troops to the US-led international force in Afghanistan were ignored.

In a tweet, Khalilzad wrote: “Working closely with Nato and other partners and allies has been a priority from day one. We came together. We will coordinate adjustments in our presence together.”

He added: “And if we leave, we will leave together. Together for peace and security for Afghanistan and for us all.”
