The United States secretary of state Mike Pompeo has said on Monday the “presence of the US diplomatic staff” at the American embassy in Venezuela “has become a constraint on US policy”.

Pompeo announced that the US will completely withdraw all left officials from its embassy in Venezuela this week. According to Pompeo, this decision of officials withdrawal reflects the “deteriorating situation” in crisis-torn country, according to Sputnik news reports.

In a tweet, Pompeo wrote: “The U.S. will withdraw all remaining personnel from @usembassyve this week. This decision reflects the deteriorating situation in #Venezuela as well as the conclusion that the presence of U.S. diplomatic staff at the embassy has become a constraint on U.S. policy.”

Earlier, the US state department has ordered all non-emergency American employees in Venezuela to leave the country and also issued a security alert for the US government employees in the capital Caracas amid growing tensions between the two nations – USA and Venezuela.

According to a statement, American citizens residing in Venezuela has been advised to contact the US embassy in Caracas for any consular assistance. The released statement also stressed that the US citizens traveling or residing in Venezuela should “strongly consider” fleeing the country, further noting that they should do so as soon as possible while the commercial flights are available.
