United States President Donald Trump is slated to pay a visit to the United Kingdom, scheduled on June 3-5, to mark his first official state visit, as confirmed by Buckingham Palace.

The US president will be accompanied by First Lady Melania Trump over an invitation from 93-year-old Queen Elizabeth II, marking the third US presidential couple to receive the honour during the Queen’s reign after ex-President George W. Bush in 2003 and former president Barack Obama in 2011.

Announcing the development, in a tweet, Buckingham Palace wrote: “The President of the United States of America, President Donald J. Trump, accompanied by Mrs Melania Trump, has accepted an invitation from Her Majesty The Queen to pay a state visit to the UK.”

According to ANI news reports, Trump will be welcomed with a similar ceremony which was received by former US president Obama.

Trump is also slated to hold discussions with British Prime Minister Theresa May during his first visit, in the midst of Brexit trade relation issue.

Over Trump’s visit, PM May, in an official statement, said, “We do more together than any two nations in the world and we are both safer and more prosperous because of our cooperation.”

May further said upcoming Trump’s visit would be “an opportunity to strengthen our already close relationship in areas such as trade, investment, security and defence, and to discuss how we can build on these ties in the years ahead”.
