The United States has on Tuesday urged China not to block Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Masood Azhar from listed as a global “terrorist” at the UNSC meeting going to be held today with talks aimed at Azhar’s designation.

China has previously thrice blocked efforts to designate JeM, Pakistan based and backed terror outfit, claimed the responsibility of Pulwama terror attack in Jammu Kashmir which claimed the lives of 44 CRPF personnel on February 14, chief Azhar as a global terrorist at the United Nations Security Council.

According to ANI news reports, the US state department spokesperson Robert Palladino has on Tuesday stated: “… I would say that the United States and China share a mutual interest in achieving regional stability and peace and that a failure to designate Azhar would run counter to the goal.”

Palladino further stated, “JeM is a United Nations-designated terrorist group, Azhar is the founder and the leader of JeM.”

At a media briefing, Palladino said Azhar is the “founder and the leader of JeM”, and he meets the “criteria for designation by the United Nations”.

He added, “JeM has been responsible for numerous terrorist attacks and is a threat to regional stability and peace.”

The international community has backed India’s fighting against a terrorist with Washington telling Islamabad to stop harbouring terrorism and providing a safe haven to terror outfits in their region
