The United States has pressed its Arab League allies to hold back their endeavour to renews the talks with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, that would prompt Washington to impose sanctions on Syria.

According to Sputnik news reports, the US President Donald Trump’s administration has on Monday reportedly warned that any efforts and attempts to participate into the post-war rebuilding of Syria would prompt the US to impose some sanctions to pressure Syrian president into accepting the political reforms.

Washington’s concerns were triggered by the UAE’s (United Arab Emirates) decision to re-open Abu Dhabi embassy in Damascus after the “conviction that the next stage requires Arab presence and communication in the Syrian file”, according to a newspaper.

US’ move became strong action towards Syrian rehabilitation by its Arab allies, who has previously backed the opposition fighting against the Syrian President Assad.

The newspaper added, “Many of those countries supported the anti-Assad rebellion and are confronting the reality that he is likely to remain in power for the foreseeable future.”

Syria has on March 3 attended a meeting of the Arab states for the first time since2011 civil war broke out in the region, marking the major step towards Syrian post-war reintegration into a region.

“At least eight members of the Arab League: Lebanon, Algeria, Iraq, Tunisia, Egypt, Sudan, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, are positively disposed towards the return of Syria to the Arab League”, the source said.
