Islamabad, May 28: Uzbekistan deputy prime minister has on Monday met with the Pakistani military and civil leadership during his two-day official to Islamabad.

Deputy Prime Minister Elyor Ganivev held a meeting with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan at the PM house, at the time, Ganivev conveyed greetings of Uzbekistan President to Khan and briefed him about the project – transport railway corridor – from Uzbek to Peshawar linking through Mazar-e-Sharif and Kabul.

PM Khan agreed the railway corridor would not only benefit the nation but also bolster the region’s connectivity with Europe, China, and Central Asia, according to The Nation news reports.

Khan threw light on the cultural and historic bonds which both the states shared and underlined the importance of deepening bilateral relations and cooperation.

Later, Uzbek minister called on Pakistan’s chief of army staff general Qamar Javed Bajwa at the headquarters, according to ISPR.

Both General Bajwa and Ganivev discussed regional security situations and ways to enhance bilateral ties. Bajwa stated, “Uzbekistan is a brotherly country and cooperation between the two states will not only help in maintaining regional peace but also usher in economic prosperity.”

The ISPR added Ganivev praised the Pakistan army’s role in fighting against terrorism and simultaneously maintaining peace in the nation.

Uzbekistan and Pakistan have agreed to bolster bilateral trade to reach a target of $300 million as a trading volume, during a top-delegation level meeting at the foreign affairs ministry.

Ganivev led the delegation of Uzbek government officials and Pakistan delegation was led by foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

Qureshi claimed Ganivev’s visit to Islamabad would bolster political and economic partnership and further enhance their regional cooperation. He stated Pakistan was seeking to bolster ties with Central Asian nations.
