The Venezuelan opposition sought secret negotiations with the nation’s legitimate government officials as well military in an attempt to force the current president Nicolas Maduro to resign, the self-proclaimed Venezuelan interim president Juan Guaido said on Monday.

According to Sputnik news reports, Guaido said, “We have been in talks with government officials, civilian and military men… This is a very delicate subject involving personal security. We are meeting with them, but discreetly.”

Guaido has asked his supporters on Monday, to attend new rallies, which were scheduled for Wednesday and Saturday.

On Twitter, in a video post, Guaido said, “On Wednesday, a mass public demonstration will be held, and I call on the people of Venezuela to take to the streets.”

The opposition head further declared that another rally would be expected to be scheduled on Saturday.

Guaido also said the demonstration is aimed to put an end to a usurpation of power, promote respect for human rights in the country as well as to further ensure the possibility to receive humanitarian assistance.

Last Wednesday, the opposition leader Guaido has declared himself as interim president of the country amid a political crisis. Also, the United States recognized Guaido as the country’s interim president.

Meanwhile, Maduro accused Washington of staging a coup in his nation and announced he would serve no diplomatic and political ties with the US and gave 72 hours to American workers to leave the country. The US further slammed Maduro’s decision and called on American employees working in Venezuela to leave the country.
