Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, over a telephonic conversation, had talks, focused on counter-terrorism and defence, and Putin, meanwhile, invited Modi for the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) meet, scheduled to take place in September in Vladivostok.

According to news reported by ANI, both the two leaders also discussed their bilateral cooperation and its current international issues.

In an official statement, the ministry of external affairs said the two leaders congratulated each other on the New Year. Modi also extended his warm best regards and wishes to the Russian citizen on the Christmas Eve occasion.

The statement further stated the Russian president too wished Indian prime minister success with best regards to the upcoming Lok Sabha, parliamentary, election in India.

According to reports, both countries leaders confirmed their mutual willingness in order to increase the cooperation in battling against international terrorism and to resolving other pressurized world issues. It also said the two leaders further agreed to continue their ties and contact at various levels.

India and Japan also started off 2019 with looking forward to the first strategic dialogue between Indian foreign minister Sushma Swaraj and Japanese foreign minister Taro Kono. According to MEA, following Modi and Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe summit, the spokesperson said they were focused on regional connectivity, economic partnership, new and digital technologies, healthcare, renewable energy, defence cooperation, maritime security”.

The Indian government spokesperson said, “The Prime Minister said that India looks forward to the next round of Annual Summit with Japan, later this year.”
