Beijing, June 19: United States President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping have held a telephonic conversation on Tuesday in the midst of rising trade tensions between the world’s two powerful economic.

The dialogues were held at a request of the US president, as per the reports of China state-run Xinhua news agency.

Interacting with his Chinese counterpart, Trump stated he looked forward to discussing several issues of common interests and concerns when they are likely to meet in Osaka, Japan, on the sidelines of the G20 summit later this month, according to ANI news reports.

Washington values its trade and economic cooperation and relation with Beijing, the US president added during his telephonic conversation. Trump hoped for both the nations to closely study the issue and resolve the ongoing trade spat as soon as possible.

The talks come at the time when China and the US are locked in bitter trade spat which saw both the sides hiking tariffs on each other’s imports after a failed meeting between trade representative to pave ways to resolve the issue.

Trump further said the world hopes China and the US reach a deal agreement soon. Xi said both the nations “lose from confrontation” and gain from cooperation, according to Xinhua news reports.

The Chinese leaders further stated the two sides should push for the better China-US relationship over the basis of the mutual interest and respect.

During the conversation, Xi expressed willingness to meet and hold talks with the US president at the G20 summit in Japan and discuss bilateral relations. He also stated two nations should also solve their issues through dialogues on “an equal footing”.

Furthermost, Xi added saying Beijing hopes Washington can treat the Chinese firms in a “fair manner”, referring to a recent crackdown on China’s telecommunication giant Huawei Pvt Ltd.
