United Kingdom foreign secretary Jeremy Hunt has said on Tuesday that the Yemen crisis will not be solved if the nation halts delivering weapons to “some of the participants” in Yemen conflict.

Hunt, in his opinion mouthpiece, in the article dubbed “Yemen crisis won’t be solved by UK arms exports halt”, expressed his views over the Yemen war, which has infiltrated in its fifth year plunging the country into one of the world’s worst humanitarian catastrophes, according to Sputnik news reports.

In his opinion piece released by the Politico website on Tuesday, Hunt said, “Some argue that Britain has contributed to the crisis because of arms sales to some of the participants. In fact, we have some of the strictest arms control export guidelines in the world and I have made the quest for a political solution in Yemen a central priority for British diplomacy.”

Hunt also insisted the history of Britain has made the nation play certain roles in making some “constructive differences” in the middle east.

He said, “We could halt our military exports and sever the ties that British governments of all parties have carefully preserved for decades, as critics are urging,” adding, “But in doing so we would also surrender our influence and make ourselves irrelevant to the course of events in Yemen.”

“Before they had launched a single air strike, Yemen was already at war”, he stressed.
