Jakarta, May 24: Prabowo Subianto, defeated Indonesian presidential candidate, is all set to lodge a challenge on Friday to the April 17 polls’ outcome in the constitutional court, after complaining the poll was rigged.

According to Reuters news reports, the general election commission (KPU) has on Tuesday said Indonesian President Joko Widodo won the presidential election with 55.5 per cent of votes in favour to lead the world’s third-biggest democracy, defeating ex-general Prabowo who received around 44.5 per cent of votes against Widodo.

Prabowo, after the announcement, reiterated his earlier claims the vote was rigged in favour of the incumbent and thousands of backers protested this weak in the capital against the results of the polls.

During the protest, eight people were killed with other three teenagers, while other 737 were injured in two nights of rioting, according to Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan.

There were no shreds of evidence of any systematic cheating, as well the independent observers have stated the vote was fair and free, the election agency has said.

“The process of submitting the dispute lawsuit and other legal efforts are steps to ensure that we can carry election results that are free and fair,” Prabowo’s running mate, Sandiaga Uno, told reporters.
