Government has introduced a new PPP (Public-Private Partnership) model and self sustaining model according to which 10 railway stations situated in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Andra Pradesh, Goa, Rajasthan and Kerela will be redeveloped in the upcoming years. The stations which will be redeveloped are Tirupati, Sarai Rohilla, Nellore, Puducherry, Madgoan, Lucknow, Gomati Nagar, Kota, Thane and Ernakulam. These stations will get allusive structures with passenger lounges, modern state art facility and non conflicting entry and exit gates. They will also have commercial space for apartments, hotels and business centres. These stations will be developed through the exploitation of vacant railway lands. The commercial space should be leased out for about 40-60 years.

A Memorandum of Understanding was singed by the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) and National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC) in the presence of Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu and and Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu. Suresh Prabhu said that they have chosen this PPP Model and are trying to grab and secure agencies like Central government PSUs, Railways’ own PSUs, foreign countries through government-to-government cooperation and state governments to execute the project. In future they have an ambitious project to redevelop 403 stations with the help of both private and public sectors along with foreign agencies.
