Amidst an impeachment inquiry against US President Donald Trump, the US government has approved the sale of military equipment to Ukraine to help fight separatists in the country.

Ukraine has been embroiled in a civil war in the Donbass region with Russia backed separatists since 2014. According to a report by News 18, Congress was notified of the deal which was announced after getting initial approval from the leadership.

The United States has been assisting the Ukrainian leadership after the country got involved in a battle with separatists who have been trying to get control of the region away from Ukrainian control.

In the United States, the President has been facing flak for his phone call with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky pressing him to investigate the corruption allegations against the son of Former Vice President Joe Biden. The Administration had blocked an aid of 400 US Dollars earlier in the year.

According to a report by News 18, the arms sales is not a part of the aids package. The deal is worth 39.2 million US Dollars which includes the sale of ten javelin missile launcher and other related components. US Air Force General Tod Walters said that the US should send more missiles to Ukraine to protect the country from the separatists.
