Great news for actors Hrithik Roshan and Alia Bhatt. They are among the 819 people who are invited by The Academy Of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.
Apart from them, Indian artists to be invited are people such as casting directors, Nandini Shrikent and Tess Joseph, filmmakers Nishtha Jain and Amit Madheshiya, visual effects supervisors Vishal Anand and Sandeep Kamal and film score composer Nainita Desai.
If the invitees were to accept the invitation, they’ll get voting rights at the 93rd Academy Awards which will be held on April 25, 2021. Several other well reputed artists are invited by the Academy, among them are names such as Lulu Wang (The Farewell), Ari Aster (Midsommar), actors Ana De Armas (Knives Out), Brian Tyree Henry (If Beale Street Could Talk), Florence Pugh (Little Women), Zendaya, John David Washington among others.
As the Academy had a goal of diversifying itself, they have successfully managed to accomplish it too. Among the invitees 36 percent are people of colour, while 45 percent are women. The Academy CEO, Dawn Hudson released a statement and said :
“We look forward to continuing to foster an Academy that reflects the world around us in our membership, our programs, our new Museum, and in our awards.”
Also, this year is a monumental year for the Academy as it is the first time that they have invited talent mangers to become their members.
