CBSE said on 26th February that no school can withhold admit cards for the board exams. No student from Xth or XIIth grade eligible to write the exams should be barred from doing so.

The board received numerous complaints regarding the situation. It was also found that some schools were charging an extra fee to students for the release of the admit cards. Schools were said to have not given the admit cards to those students who hadn’t performed well in their pre-board examinations. In the advisory released on 23rd February KK Choudhary, the controller of examinations said, “Several instances of not issuing admit cards by various CBSE affiliated schools on grounds of performance of students in pre-board tests (conducted by schools internally) have come to the notice of the board. It has also been noted that some schools are chargingĀ fees for the release of the admit card.”

These actions would be in violation of Rule 15 in the Examination By-laws. The CBSE thus said, “In no case the heads of affiliated schools shall detain eligible candidates from appearing at the examination. The practice has been viewed very seriously by the board and is violative of the by-laws.” The board in any case only issued admit cards to those students sponsored by the schools in the final list of candidates that are submitted to the board. In submitting the list the board said that the school has already confirmed the eligibility of the student to appear for the examinations. In such cases, if the admit cards are withheld for any practical or theory examination would be illegal.

The examinations are set to begin from March 5th and there are schools that are still not releasing the admit cards to students in the country. With the combined pressure of performing well and not receiving the admit cards the students might be affected negatively, so will their confidence to give the exams.
