Just weeks after Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman slammed Pakistan for its “misadventures” in Jammu and Kashmir’s Sunjwan military station, the Army declared yesterday that it has destroyed some Pakistani outposts across the Line of Control (LoC).

Army officials said that they had to retaliate after Pakistani soldiers violated ceasefire agreements by firing incessantly for three days along the Indian side of the LoC in Kashmir’s Haji Pir and Tangdhar sectors.

Direct assault by Indian soldiers across the border in retaliation resulted in several Pakistani outposts being destroyed and their soldiers being killed. A few media reports claimed that some of these outposts were terrorist launch pads similar to the ones that were destroyed by India during last year’s ‘surgical strikes’.

Pakistan provocations have been frequent in recent times. Tensions had arisen earlier this week as well when one of Pakistan’s military helicopters flew within 300 metres of the LoC, which is in direct violation of agreements governing military actions between India and its western neighbour along the international border.
