The beginning of the second week of the Monsoon session saw huge ruckus in the assembly on Monday. Few opposition leaders in spite of being warned were continually shouting slogans against the ruling government regarding the lynching issues during the question hour of the Lok Sabha.

Speaker Sumitra Mahajan had repeatedly ensured that the issue will be discussed after the question hour but the opposition leader continued sloganeering. Few MLA also tore papers and threw at the Well of the House, regarding this highly unbecoming behavior of the MLAs, Mahajan suspended 6 of them for 5 consecutive days.

The MLAs to be suspended are Gaurav Gogoi, Sushmita Dev, Ranjeet Ranjan, Adhir Choudhary, K Suresh and M K Raghavan. Mahajan angrily said that “The entire country should watch this…Show it, let them watch, I am sad and deeply hurt … I did not prevent them from raising any issue. I told them they can raise the issue but only after the question hour.”

Following the suspension of the MLAs, the Opposition parties decided at a meeting in Congress President Sonia Gandhi‘s chamber not to attend the House. They will hold a “dharna” under the Mahatma Gandhi’s statue in the Parliament House complex on Tuesday when Ram Nath Kovind will take an oath of office as India’s 14th President in the Central Hall.

Mallikarjun Kharge has requested the Speaker to convert his notice into a call-attention one and let the PM and the Home Minister be in the House to respond.
