Nagaland seemed like it was heading to some trouble with its outgoing CM. TR Zeliang didn’t give up his position without a fight, but the crisis has been averted. BJP also clarified that it is sticking to its alliance with NDPP.

BJP also received threats that NPF would leave its alliance with BJP in Manipur. But after the meeting with the Governor PB Acharya, it was declared that Rio with the largest number of votes should be the CM. BJP won 12 seats, NDPP 17 and NPF 27, therefore the alliance beat NPF by merely two votes.

The Governor said, “Technically and legally the present government can go on till March 13th and if the Chief Minister TR Zeliang does not have majority, he has to resign.” Himanta Biswa said, “We worked together with NPF for 15 years. Our ties got snapped when we joined hands with NDPP. We fought the election together with NDPP, not NPF.” One can suppose that is that. Moreover even JD(U) Nagaland lent their support to Rio making the BJP-NDPP alliance’s vote share over 31.

Nagaland is all set to welcome Rio during the swearing-in ceremony that will take place later this week. BJP’s victory in Nagaland hasn’t come easy and they will have to stick tot heir cards. This alliance will also come in handy during the 2019 elections. Especially to have the larger share of the Northeast votes. The opposition is sure to put up a fight, but for now, BJP can celebrate their victories. The beauty of politics in India is the fact that parties keep changing but the state of development and false promises never change. Every election the promises feel new, the leaders feel new and the country puts its faith in the leaders hoping for change and every five years we’re left wondering why we voted for them in the first place.
