Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Friday launched a fresh attack on Narendra Modi government. This time it was for using CBI to target opposition leaders including RJD leader Lalu Prasad. CBI has been using its powers to intimidate and harass the leaders. He also asked who the next target will be.

Gandhi, using a hashtag, tweeted:

“The BJP government uses the CBI to target key opposition politicians to intimidate and harass them. Now, a news report reveals how the CBI was pressured to file a case against @laluprasadrjd, ignoring the advice of its own legal team. Who will Modiji (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) target next?” #VendettaPolitics.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson from Congress Randeep Singh Surjewala said that his party absolutely disapproves of any act of political vendetta by the Modi government. He also added that since the BJP has only a couple of months to use its power, it should count days and face the heat.

“Now that the BJP has only few months left in power, it should count its days and be ready to face the people’s wrath.”  In furtherance he added,  “Denigrating the credibility of institutions by misusing them to target political opponents is the sole agenda of the Modi government”.

Surjewala stated that the media reports hint at the ‘Directorate of Prosecution’, and the Economic Offences Division of the CBI having varied opinion on FIR filing in a case against former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad.

CBI has got a new chasm with the Modi government filing series of cases against their political opponents. In the hands of Modi government,  CBI has become a Captive Bureau of Investigation, he added.

BJP is also under attack for unleashing the machinery on Congress leaders like Virbhadhra Singh, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, P. Chidambaram, Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot.

Rahul meanwhile said that all the opponents have been the prime targets of the BJP recently.
