Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi once again, addressing the audience at the 112th annual session of PhD Chambers, on Thursday attacked the Modi government, over GST and demonitisation calling it the killing of Indian economy through a double tap.

These comments of Rahul comes in wake of the statements made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday that the GST will eventually benefit the poor and the middle class people.

Responding to the allegations of the Congress leader, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said, “Rahul and responsibility never go together, but Rahul and rhetoric make a good combination.” Counter attacking Rahul on the remarks made by him on the declining GSP, Sambit asked that why was Rahul Gandhi quite when the economy was doomed during the UPA regime.

“When the UPA was in charge of the economy, there was a policy paralysis and the economy was doomed. Why did he (Rahul Gandhi) not utter a single word at that time?” Patra asked.

Defending the moves of the Modi government Sambit said that the as far as the economy was concerned, the country had moved from the “fragile five” to the “fabulous few”. To support his claim he further added that the IMF (International Monetary Fund) has also reported that the Indian economy was on solid tracks and that India is a bright star.

Another BJP spokesperson, GVL Narasimha Rao accused that the Congress was deliberately trying to spreading the terror of the declining economy so that the people stand against the BJP and Congress could strengthen its prospects for the Lok Sabha polls. He said that Rahul believes if a lie is said a hundred times it will become the truth and people will believe it. “But the people know that the economy is doing well and it is the Congress party which is on ventilator support in an ICU,” he added.

Rao also alleged that the previous UPA government had left the Indian economy shattering and made it one of the five fragile economies in the world back in 2013. Boasting about the Modi government he said that it is Prime Minister Narendra Modi, that brought back the economy on stable ground and made it the fastest growing economy in the world.

“Not only did Prime Minister Narendra Modi pull the economy from the brink of a precipice, where (former prime minister) Manmohan Singh had left it, he has made it the fastest growing economy in the world,” he claimed.

Union minister Giriraj Singh, taking a jibe at the remarks made by Rahul Gandhi, tweeted that “Looks like those notes were very close to his heart….Rattled (sic).”
